Windows Mail Folder Tree not refreshing

On my Toshiba laptop, the mail folder tree in Windows Mail did not refresh after adding, modifying or deleting folders, also the message count did not always update.

After many searches, which mostly found irrelevant results but highlighted other problems with Windows Mail I did find the cause in the end. The problem is down to an incompatibility of Windows Mail with Desktop SMS, and application which was pre-loaded on my Toshiba laptop. After Desktop SMS was uninstalled Windows Mail worked as expected.

I since also found this post about the problem of non refrishing folders in Windows Mail ... it did not show up in my original searches
